Colonel Dr. Stephan Döring joined the Bundeswehr in 1989 as an officer cadet in Army Air Defence. During his career, he has held numerous positions including Platoon Leader and Battery Commander in Air Defence Battalions. He attended the German General Staff Course and was assigned to the J3/5 Branch in the German Operations Command.

In 1999, Dr. Döring participated in the Kosovo campaign at the German Brigade Headquarters. In 2007, he joined the Ministry of Defence communications department and has been in charge of the Public Relations and Doctrine Office since 2016.

Dr. Döring holds a masters in political science and a PhD in social science from the University of the German Armed Forces in Munich. He also has a masters in National Security Affairs from the US Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.
