Behind the Uniform - Meet Canadian Lieutenant Commander Rebecca Gallant

Meet Royal Canadian Navy Lieutenant Commander Rebecca Gallant, assigned to U.S. 2nd Fleet Task Force-North headquarters in Bodø, Norway, supporting maritime mission execution during exercise Steadfast Defender 24. We asked her questions about who she is, her military career and what she will be doing during the exercise.

1. Where are you from?

Prince Edward Island, Canada

2.  How long have you been in the military?  Why did you join?

I have been in for 15 years. I joined to get a good education and be guaranteed a secure job when I finished school.

3.  Have you deployed before, either on a NATO exercise or other mission?

Yes, I have deployed twice before, in 2017 in the pacific and in 2020 on HMCS Toronto (FFH 333), a Halifax-class frigate with Standing NATO Maritime Group One (SNMG1).

4.  What is your job in the military and what will you be doing during this exercise?

I am a logistics officer in the Royal Canadian Navy. During this exercise I will serve as the Deputy Force Logistics Coordinator. We work to ensure all afloat forces have all their logistical needs met in order to sustain themselves at sea - enabling them to achieve their mission.

5. What do you do in your spare time?  Do you have any hobbies?

I spend my spare time camping, hiking and enjoying the beach with my family and dog. I love to knit, crochet and read!

6.  What is your biggest strength?

I think I am an enthusiastic person who brings a level of energy to my job that enables me to get the job done with a smile on my face.
