Command Senior Enlisted Leader

Command Sergeant Major Davor Petek is the Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) for Allied Command Operations at NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE). He provides the Supreme Allied Commander Europe and SHAPE staff with the enlisted perspective on strategic vision, goals and objectives, and leads the command's efforts on enlisted development, utilization and engagement.

Command Sgt. Maj. Petek was born in 1975 and is a native of Slunj. He entered the Army in 1993. Following initial training he became a rifleman with the 1st Guard Brigade in Karlovac, Croatia. During his career, he has held progressively higher roles of responsibility at the tactical, operational and strategic level in the Croatian Armed Forces, multinational operations and NATO commands. 

He has served as squad leader, platoon 2IC, battalion command sergeant major, brigade sergeant major, combat training centre command sergeant major, operational planning sergeant major, acting sergeant major of the Army, and the Command Sergeant Major of the Croatian Armed Forces.

Sgt. Maj. Petek’s previous joint assignments include International Security Assistance Force Croatian contingent Command Sergeant Major, Joint Mobile Training Team Leader and Directorate senior NCO at Allied Joint Force Command Brunssum, NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan Unified Training Advisory Group CSEL.

He earned a Bachelor of Kinesiology from the University of Zagreb. He also has completed numerous civilian and military courses to include the U.S. Army Sergeant Majors Academy, U.S. Army Battle Staff NCO Course, NATO Peace Support Operations Course, NATO Academic Instructor Course, NATO Advanced Leadership Course, and NATO Command Senior Enlisted Leader Course.

Sgt. Maj. Petek decorations include Homeland War memorial medal, Operation Storm medal, NATO Non-Article 5 ISAF Medal, NATO Meritorious Service medal, US Army Meritorious Service Medal, US Army SGT Morales medal and US Army NCO Professional Development ribbon with four oak leaf clusters.

He was promoted to the rank of sergeant major effective July 16, 2007. He is married to Jasenka of Slunj and they have two children, Ian and Neo.
