REVINGE, Sweden - Exercise Aurora 23, held in Sweden from Apr. 17 to May 11, 2023, focused on defending Swedish forces running fluid and focussed operations to defeat the invading enemy forces.
Sweden's 1st Division and one of the brigades, the 4th Mechanised Brigade, conducted vital operations throughout each phase and during a period of alignment hosted Deputy Chief of Staff Partnerships Directorate Rear Admiral Gunnstein Bruåsdal. The Partnerships Director was able to witness both headquarters in tactical settings and meet with the respective Commanders and battle staffs.
“The military focus, and energy, of both headquarters to enhance their protocols and procedures has been enormously impressive. Operational command headquarters are constantly looking to test and standardise command procedures at every level, in order to fight effectively in defensive high-end operations. It is clear to me much has been achieved on Aurora,” said Rear Admiral Bruåsdal. “Very visibly, the commander's intent, orders process and vision has been very well communicated at every phase, and the battle staffs have extracted every ounce of benefit from this testing home defence exercise.”
