First Partner Nation Military Representatives Meeting 2023

MONS, Belgium -The first quarterly Meeting for the Partner National Military Representatives (PNMRs) was held within the Partnership Directorate (PD).

26 PNMRs participated in a full day's programme, the aim of which was to brief the PNMR's on the latest updates and topics of interest within the Partnership community. Rear Admiral Gunnstein Bruasdal, Norwegian Navy Deputy Chief of Staff Partnerships Directorate addressed all attendees with a warm welcome for 2023 and offered guidance on the challenges faced for both NATO and Partners this year, including the war in Ukraine.

''These PACCQ opportunities prove to be essential in updating both the PD staff and the PNMRs on key issues and areas of interest'' said Slovakian Air Force Brigadier General Martin Remes, Assistant Chief of Staff of the Military Cooperation Division

I am greatly encouraged by the variety and depth of aspects the Partners continuously assess and how they choose to add value to our relationship

Briefings included the procedure for Partner Nations to engage and participate in NATO exercises, an update on the accession process for Sweden and Finland presented by the Swedish PNMR, Partnership communications, and the forthcoming Military Strategic Partnership Conference (MSPC) to be held in Doha, Qatar next month. All PNMRs were briefed in detail on the MSPC programme, which will include key leader engagements, shared experience, and bilateral meetings. These quarterly meetings allow PNMRs to be informed and updated on a variety of topics but also serve to be an excellent forum for face-to-face discussions and further conversations on key subjects.

''It is essential to continue to talk to each other and understand all perspectives, especially as we look to further enhance defence capacity building and other areas of common security interests. Such topics will be further discussed at the MSPC next month at the NATO – Partner Nation level.''
