Rear Admiral Bülent Turan was born in İstanbul, Turkey in 1971. He is a 1992 graduate of the Turkish Naval Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Operations Research. He completed the Submarine Officer Qualifying Course in 1993 and qualified as submariner. He holds a master’s degree in Operations Research from Naval Post Graduate School, Monterey (CA), USA. (Graduate of 1999) Admiral Turan also graduated from Turkish Naval War College in 2005 and from Turkish Joint Military College in 2014.
At sea, he served on TCG Cerbe (ex-USS Trutta–A Guppy Class WW-II fashion Submarine), TCG Preveze, TCG Sakarya, TCG Anafartalar. He commanded TCG 18 Mart from 2008 to 2010.
Admiral Turan also served as 2nd Submarine Division Commodore in Gölcük between 2014-2015.
Ashore, he served as instructor in Turkish Naval Academy; engineer in Turkish Navy’s Research and Development Center; Head of COMTURSUBGROUP HQ Operations Branch; Exercise Officer to COMSUBSOUTH/Capodichino-Naples (between 2010 and 2013); Chief Of Staff in COMTURSUBGROUP; Logistics Planning Section Head in Logistics Directorate of Turkish Naval Forces HQ.
He was promoted to Rear Admiral (LH) on 29 July 2016 and assumed the command of Turkish Submarine Group and COMSUBBLACK from 2016 to 2018. Admiral Turan began serving as the Chief of 1st Intelligence Analysis and Evaluation Department, TGS, August 17, 2018.
After being promoted to Rear Admiral (LH) and serving at various units, he was promoted to Rear Admiral (UH) in 2019 and assumed his current position as the Deputy Chief of Staff (Partnerships) at SHAPE/Mons.
He is married to Mrs. Ş. Leyla Turan and has two adolescent daughters named Zeynep and Cemre.
