Operation Sea Guardian (OSG)

Operation Sea Guardian (OSG) provides maritime situational awareness by sharing an accurate picture of daily activities in the Mediterranean. Working with Allies and the Allied operational centres, NATO develops the most comprehensive picture possible through the fusion of that information in order to identify potential security concerns. OSG also provides counter-terrorism capabilities at sea, and maritime security capacity-building.

The mission was launched in 2016, following the Warsaw Summit. A flexible maritime force generated from national assets performs a broad range of tasks that support the main objectives. The force can be tasked to preserve freedom of navigation, conduct maritime interdiction, counter the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and protect critical infrastructure.

Allied Maritime Command serves as a hub for maritime security information sharing for the Alliance.
