NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia holds Inaugural Field Exercise Resolute Warrior

ĀDAŽI Latvia – The newly established NATO Multinational Brigade Latvia (MNB-LVA) marked a significant milestone with its first field exercise, Resolute Warrior, held from Nov. 1 to 14, 2024, in Latvia.

With over 3,500 troops from 13 Allied nations, including three manoeuvre battalions, combat support units, combat service support elements, and 1,000 military vehicles, the exercise demonstrated NATO’s ability to plan, command, and execute missions in a cohesive, multinational context.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte travelled to Latvia during the exercise to meet with President Edgars Rinkēvičs and Prime Minister Evika Siliņa. Concluding a dynamic firepower demonstration on Nov. 14, Rutte addressed the troops, emphasizing the value of exercises like Resolute Warrior: "Exercises such as Resolute Warrior give our forces invaluable experience of working together," he said. "This intense training will make us more prepared to deter aggression and demonstrate our ability to defend all Allies."

The message from this exercise is clear. We’re ready

Exercise Resolute Warrior showcased the Brigade’s ability to project and sustain forces under a unified Command, Control, and Communications (C3) structure. The training underscored the importance of collaboration between contributing nations to refine procedures, systems, and best practices, further strengthening NATO's ability to deter and defend in Eastern Europe.

"Exercise Resolute Warrior 2024 showcased our joint efforts to enhance Latvia’s security. Each nation in NATO’s Multinational Brigade Latvia brings valuable skills and experience. Our cooperation is at an all-time high. The message from this exercise is clear: We’re ready," said Colonel Cédric Aspirault, Commander of Multinational Brigade Latvia.

The successful completion of Resolute Warrior marks just the beginning for NATO MNB-LVA, as the Brigade continues to expand its capabilities. Additional equipment and personnel are expected to bolster the unit through 2025 and into 2026, when persistent deployment of forces in Latvia is anticipated.

Under the command of Multinational Division North (MND-N), NATO MNB-LVA was officially established on July 3, 2024. This combat-ready force represents the most significant reinforcement of NATO’s collective defence in decades, affirming the strength of the transatlantic bond.
