MONS, Belgium – The President of the Republic of North Macedonia, Stevo Pendarovski, visited Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) on Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2022.
During the visit President Pendarovski met with Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General Christopher G. Cavoli and other senior military staff. A number of key issues were on the agenda including NATO’s Concept for Deterrence and Defence of the Euro-Atlantic Area as well as the Ukraine crisis.

President Pendarovski reaffirmed his state’s readiness to make an active contribution to the Alliance’s efforts aimed at fulfilling strategic goals, maintaining regional security and strengthening unity in NATO. He also stressed the Republic of North Macedonia, within its capacities, will continue to provide military, humanitarian and diplomatic aid to Ukraine, with the ultimate goal of ending military aggression, defending democratic values and establishing peace.
General Cavoli thanked the President for his country’s continual support to the Alliance and their efforts in helping to maintain the security of the Euro-Atlantic area.
The Republic of North Macedonia is NATO’s 30th and youngest member having officially joining the Alliance on Mar. 27, 2020. Historically, the Republic is a long standing contributor to Euro-Atlantic security, including participation in NATO-led missions in Afghanistan and Kosovo.
