SACEUR MEETS WITH GREEK, US LEADERS IN ATHENS

ATHENS, Greece - Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Christopher Cavoli met with Greek and U.S. leaders Aug. 5 in Athens to discuss a variety of defence topics related to the peace and security of Euro-Atlantic Area. CWO Kevin Mathers, Allied Command Operations Command (ACO) Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) accompanied General Cavoli during the visit.

While in Athens, General Cavoli met with the Minister of National Defence Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotopoulos, Chief of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff General Konstantinos Floros, and U.S. Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic George J. Tsunis.

"NATO stands stronger than ever in a period of serious threats and challenges emanating from aggressive revisionism,” said General Floros. “With the transatlantic link being our common ground and our commitment to peace and stability being the sound basis of our Alliance’s collective defence, the Hellenic Armed Forces are fully supporting Greece’s and NATO’s vital role in the Balkans, the Eastern Mediterranean, and beyond."

“We appreciate Greece’s longstanding support in NATO missions from Iraq to Kosovo and air policing missions over Albania, Montenegro, and North Macedonia. Their commitment to the Alliance and NATO’s collective defence promotes peace and stability in the Balkans, Eastern Mediterranean, and beyond,” said General Cavoli.

This was General Cavoli’s first trip to Athens since assuming role of SACEUR in early July 2022.
