SHAPE hosted the ACO Gender Advisor's Conference between 21- 22 June 2022, bringing together all NATO Gender Advisors (GENADs) across the Strategic Commands as well as representatives from the NATO HQ Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Office, the NATO Committee on Gender Perspectives (NCGP) and the Nordic Centre for Gender in Military Operations (NCGM).
"The success we have achieved so far is a product of collaborative and dedicated efforts which includes leadership, our Gender Advisors, Gender Focal Points and all of the NATO staff, both Military and Civilian working together. Gender perspective is an extremely important and fast evolving topic across the Alliance and we will address it correctly"
said Lt Gen Brice HOUDET, SHAPE Vice Chief of Staff.
NATO Gender Advisors and Subject Matter Experts meet at the annual ACO Gender Advisor's Conference at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe to discuss current topics facing the Alliance from a gender perspective.
After the opening of the Conference by the SHAPE Vice Chief of Staff, Lt Gen Brice HOUDET, followed by the NATO Secretary General's Special Representative for WPS, Ms. Irene FELLIN, GENADs had the unique opportunity to discuss best practices, challenges and share their experiences.
Participants addressed current challenges to global security and stability, particularly in relation to the situation in Ukraine and the use of Gender-Based Violence as a tactic of war, as well as the way forward in view of the opportunities posed by the new NATO Strategic Concept. Discussion also covered lessons learned when it comes to the effective integration of gender perspective into NATO's core tasks; collective defense, cooperative security, and crisis management.
