DEFENDER Europe 20 - Arrivals and Community Outreach

MONS, Belgium – On Friday, February 21, 2020, the first U.S. Army soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division arrived in Nuremberg, Germany on the way to Poland and the Baltic States this week. While the deployment of troops from NATO nations continues, the U.S. sent one of their most popular ambassadors for this first arrival.

The U.S. Army Europe Band and Chorus played a concert in Gdynia, Poland. The concert was part of the Defender-Europe 20 outreach tour. The purpose of the outreach tours across Europe is to introduce the participants of Defender-Europe 20, explain the exercise to locals, and manage expectations during different phases of the exercise.

U.S. Army Soldiers assigned to the 1st Cavalry Division are greeted by Joachim Herrmann, Minister of the Interior of Bavaria, Brigadier General Thomas Hambach, commander, Territorial Command Bavaria, Consul General Meghan Gregonis, U.S. Consulate Munich, Brigadier General Christopher Norrie, commander, 7th Army Training Command,

commanders with the Bavarian State Police and Colonel Brett Forbes, commander, 1st Cavalry Division at the Nuremberg Airport, Germany, March 5, 2020.

The Bundeswehr primarily supports logistics. The transports are mainly carried out at night on the motorways to mitigate the impact on the population. Military maneuvers take place on German territory in Grafenwoehr and on the military training area in Oberlausitz.

Defender-Europe 20 demonstrates the strength and solid relationships NATO allies and partners have through joint enablement and the deployment of forces with multinational logistics, administrative and facility support.
