SACEUR General Wolters Attends First Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence Session

BRUSSELS – Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) General Tod D. Wolters attended the 181st iteration of the Military Committee in Chiefs of Defence Session (MCCS) at NATO Headquarters, May 22, 2019.

The Military Committee, NATO’s highest military authority led by Air Chief Marshal Sir Stuart Peach, are meeting for the second time in 2019 to discuss the Alliance’s deterrence and defence posture as well as the enablement of SACEUR’s area of responsibility.

It’s an exciting time to be here

“It’s an exciting time to be here - to come together to talk with the Allied chiefs of defence about what the Alliance is doing, where we are going, and where to apply focus and resources,” said SACEUR General Wolters. “Not only do we have forces deployed on operations, but we also continue to adapt our formations, and train together to improve our readiness and interoperability.”

The MCCS meets twice per year at NATO Headquarters and once per year in an Allied member country. The goals of the sessions are to discuss the Alliance’s operations and provide the North Atlantic Council with military advice on how to best meet increasingly complex security challenges.

General Wolters recently took command as the 19th SACEUR during a change of command ceremony held at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE) on May 3, 2019.
