NATO CIS Group reinforcing NATO Response Force command and control in Romania

BUCHAREST, Romania - Exercise Steadfast Cobalt 19, NATO’s Communications and Information Systems Group’s (NCISG) annual command and control structure exercise, continues in Romania until June 2, 2019.

On Tuesday, May 21 the Romanian Commandant of Communications Systems, Major General Valentin Becheru visited and co-hosted with Commander NCISG Major General Wolfgang Renner a press conference before visiting the installations and personnel.

“The Black Sea region is facing challenging times and NATO has steadily adapted accordingly to new and emerging threats. Steadfast Cobalt 19 is a vital interoperability exercise where information systems networks are tested as part of NATO Response Force (NRF) 20 Command and Control,” said Major General Renner. “My Group’s readiness and ability to deploy has been hugely successful and reinforced our capability to operate within NATO’s 360 Dec approach to Defence,” he added.

Over the next 2 weeks Steadfast Cobalt will provide the NATO CIS the environment to evaluate and test NRF 20 communication systems, to plan ahead for Exercise Trident Jupiter 20 later this year and enhance processes to support Command and Control structures for NATO missions.
