MONS, Belgium – Command Sergeant Major Davor Petek, Allied Command Operations command senior enlisted leader, hosted an All-Call for non-commissioned officers (NCO) at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), on Monday, May 28, 2018, to discuss the new NATO Command Structure Adaptation and subjects topical to the NCOs.
General Markus Kneip, SHAPE Chief of Staff, spoke at the event, discussing upcoming changes associated with the NATO Command Structure (NCS) Adaptation. General Kneip explained the necessary changes that coincide with the current security environment and shared his vision for SHAPE in the coming years. He also addressed the role non-commissioned officers will play and the importance of their experience lending a hand in the transition.
"It's all about changing," General Kneip said. "This is the start of a journey and at the end of that journey is our official adaptation. For this, we need you."
SHAPE leadership continued to inform the group with specifics on what will change, how it will change and the importance of the changes. Command Sergeant Major Petek encouraged NCOs in the room to take an active role by remaining engaged and informed.
"The NCS-Adaptation reaffirms what is said in our NATO NCO Guidelines," said Command Sergeant Major Petek. "That we, as NCOs, must continue to operate and transform effectively to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow. This isn't a new idea, and I know that the NCOs in this room will continue to be innovative and adapt with the times."
