MONS, Belgium - Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR), General Sir James Everard, addressed the European Union Military Committee on Monday, Feb. 5, 2018 at NATO Headquarters in Brussels in his role as the Operational Commander for the EU Operation ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH).

The General discussed the outcomes of the first Strategic Review completed on Jan. 23 of European Union Force (EUFOR) Operation ALTHEA.
"It is vital to understand a situation before changing it. The Strategic Review allows us to have that understanding and enables us to make EUFOR fitter and faster," said General Everard.

DSACEUR welcomed the EU Member States' resolve to re-focus Operation ALTHEA on supporting Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities in maintaining a safe and secure environment while praising the commitment to strengthen NATO-EU coordination.

"The Commander of EUFOR will now re-posture his small force to prioritise support for a safe and secure environment above all other tasks," said General Everard. "The continued coordination with NATO is key as it builds the interoperability and combined collective capacity."

NATO also supports Bosnia and Herzegovina in its security and defence reforms through its offices at NATO Headquarters Sarajevo.
