THESSALONIKI, Greece - The 11th Allied Command Operations (ACO) International Legal Conference is underway in Greece bringing together senior military and civilian legal advisors from across NATO and Non-NATO nations from May 7 to 10, 2018.

The aim of the conference is to develop an understanding of special aspects of International Law while offering a unique opportunity to engage with experts and debate the legal approach to current challenges.

"When I look at the agenda for the conference, I am impressed. I respect the boldness of the organisers for taking this opportunity to discuss some of the top issues of the day for the Alliance and the Nations that comprise it," said Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe (DSACEUR) General Sir James Everard in his welcoming remarks.

The main topics of discussion are Women in International Law, Legal aspects of the Southern Flank as well as Cyber Defence Law.

"The relevance of timely and proper legal advice within the Alliance requires national and NATO legal advisors to gather, discuss and coordinate. Legal conferences provide an excellent platform for the necessary legal construct of NATO and its members and partners," said Andres Munoz Mosquera, Director of the ACO / SHAPE legal office.

The conference, co-organised by the legal offices of SHAPE and the NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Greece (NRDC-GR), includes legal personnel from over 30 European nations.
