Exercise Ramstein Ambition underway at Allied Air Command

RAMSTEIN, Germany - Exercise Ramstein Ambition, a command and control exercise, is currently underway at NATO's Allied Air Command in Ramstein, Germany.

The exercise, which began on Apr. 24th, is the headquarter's primary training event for 2017 and focuses on exercising the Joint Force Air Component Headquarters’ (JFAC HQ) ability to Command and Control (C2) a Small Joint Operation Air Heavy in a joint environment.

Around 700 staff, from across Allied Air Command’s Deployable Air Command and Control Centre at Poggio Renatico and the Combined Air Operations Centres (CAOCs) at Torrejon, Spain, and Uedem, Germany, have formed a scaled JFAC with Allied Air Command staff.

The JFAC is tailored in size and composition to provide full functionality of the NATO Command Structure JFAC HQ. Meanwhile, the scenario is designed around a Peace Support Operation and based on contemporary hybrid war.

NATO’s Allied Air Command is tasked to provide effective C2 of air operations. This exercise ensures that NATO evolves to meet new security challenges and serves to demonstrate the range and scale of military capabilities that the Alliance maintains to collectively defend against a range of threats.

In total, personnel from 33 units representing 28 nations are participating in the exercise which concludes on May 5.
