DEFENDER-Europe 20 is one of the largest exercises in 2020. The U.S.- led exercise includes the participation of 17 allied and partner nations and an estimated 37,000 service members.

The joint, multinational training exercise takes place from April 20 to May 20, 2020, with personnel and equipment movements occurring from February through July 2020.

DEFENDER-Europe 20 supports the enhancement of Alliance-wide readiness and capability to deploy and respond decisively against any adversary in a multinational, multi-domain, high-intensity conflict. The exercise contributes to increasing Alliance interoperability, and trains NATO and Allied commands in planning and executing large-scale ground combat operations against a near-peer adversary in Europe. It provides an opportunity to promote the benefits of NATO’s partnerships to increased security and stability.
