Lithuania Army hosts Best Land Force Infantry Section Competition

Lithuania’s 4th Best Land Force Infantry section competition was held form 23-26 August in Gaižiūnai, Rukla district. The event took place with the participation of 8 units of the Land Forces divisions of the Motorised Infantry Brigade "Iron Wolf" (MIB) and the National Defence Volunteer Force. Guest for the event included NATO allies from Latvia, Poland, Portugal and the United States Army infantry sections. This year’s competition made history with the inclusion of conscripts Soldiers from Portugal Armed Forces.

The main aim of the competition - the development of the Lithuanian Land Force traditions and promote the improvement of infantry troops sections sports and the military skills during the activity. At the same time it seeks to stimulate international cooperation, to improve the level of interoperability of international forces and selecting the best land force infantry unit. Competitors doing indicative mapping control points, competeed on observation, various natural and engineering obstacles, throwing grenades and live firing exercises.

This year Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion 1 Engineering Company of combat engineering section (Lithuania Land Forces), led by Section Commander Sgt. Vytautas Kriaučiūnas, took 2nd place and were the best among the sections representing Lithuania. Combat Engineers Section submits only our neighbours Latvians as last year they won the first place in the competition. The Engineers section includes commander Sgt. Vytautas Kriaučiūnas, CPL Vaidas Galeckas, CPL Eimantas Augūnas, PFC Vytautas Čereškevičius, PFC Darius Sabaliauskas, PV2 Juozas Babilius, PV2 Šarunas Andriulaitis, PV2 Lukas Paukštelis.

After the competition Sgt. Vytautas Kriaučiūnas said: "The competition was physically hard, and mentally challenging. Although the tasks were very interesting, and not easy, my unit Soldiers surprised me with their inner motivation, which was the main purpose to win." For the best section went not only honor, but also specially made for this event Challenger Cup. Winners were congratulated and awarded by the Commander of the Land Forces of Lithuanian Armed Forces, BG Valdemaras Rupšys; Juozas Vitkus Engineer Battalion Commander, Maj. Ramūnas Jurskis and Command Sergeant Major of Land Forces, SGM Osvaldas Žurauskas.
