First female CSEL visits SHAPE
U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Heather Stenberg, NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL), visited SHAPE, Belgium, January 15, 2019.
During her visit she met with Command Sergeant Major Davor Petek, Allied Command Operations (ACO) CSEL, and other leaders, discussing the NATO noncommissioned officer corps and correlating initiatives and programs.
"It’s a very humbling opportunity; I hope to do it justice,” Chief Stenberg said. "I’ve been doing a lot of ground work since arriving to AGS. We are still a fledgling unit, so I have been using the [NATO NCO Bi-Sc Strategy and Guidelines] to help improve and empower our NATO NCOs.”
Chief Stenberg is not only the first female CSEL in ACO history, but she is also the first CSEL to be positioned at NATO AGS, Italian Air Base Sigonella, Sicily.
"I really want NCOs to understand the power behind taking advantage of professional development opportunities,” Chief Stenberg said. "You never know what might happen. Every moment is a chance to better you for the next opportunity that comes along.”
Chief Stenberg’s previous assignment was to the North American Aerospace Defense Command.
