Change of Command at KFOR

PRISTINA, Kosovo – There’s been a change of command at KFOR.  The Transfer of Authority ceremony between the outgoing KFOR Commander Major General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo and the incoming Major General Guglielmo Luigi Miglietta took place at NATO’s KFOR Headquarters on Friday, 7 August 2015.
 
Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga, the Joint Force Command Naples Commander, Admiral Mark Ferguson, the Italian Chief of Defence, General Claudio Graziano as well as military, civilian and religious authorities took part in the event.
 
JFC Naples Commander Admiral Ferguson thanked General Figliuolo for his outstanding accomplishments during his mandate. Ferguson then went on to welcome General Miglietta.  "We are blessed with another Commander from Italy”, Ferguson said.

Admiral Ferguson also emphasized the importance of KFOR in maintaining a safe and security environment in Kosovo, improving the security of Kosovo and of the Balkan area.
 
Meanwhile, Major General Figliuolo pointed out that "today KFOR is ten times smaller than it was in 1999 and the security in Kosovo is much more than ten times better.” He went on to say, "the security situation has vastly improved over the last year due to the preventive posture and actions adopted by my KFOR troops and the strong dialogue and cooperation we have forged among the stakeholders”.
 
Under the authority of the United Nations (UN Security Council Resolution 1244) NATO has been leading a peace support operation in Kosovo since 12 June 1999 in support of wider international efforts to build peace and stability in the area.
