1. Where are you from?
I'm from Szczecin, in the north of Poland and close to the German border.
2. How long have you been in the military? Why did you decide to join?
I have been serving in the military for 18 years. I joined the army by accident. I was drafted as a conscript and during that time I had the opportunity to get into the non-commissioned officer school. So I took a shot, passed the exams, and succeeded. After the graduation I was promoted to the rank of corporal.
3. Have you deployed before, either on a NATO exercise or other mission?
I have deployed to Afghanistan two times. I have also participated in multinational exercises many times; for example in 2016 I was deployed to Norway and participated in exercise Cold Response. I served as a staff member in the Swedish Brigade.
4. What are your expectations of this exercise?
I was responsible for preparing the whole of the logistic support concept for Polish Battalion, for both Exercises Brilliant Jump and Cold Response, so my expectations are that everything will go well.
5. What is your role/job in the military and during this exercise?
I'm a staff member in the Polish Battalion and as a logistician my job is to plan and coordinate logistic support for the battalion in tactical operations.
6. How did you and your unit prepare for this cold weather?
To be better prepared for challenging weather and terrain conditions in Norway, my battalion conducted a winter exercise in Drawsko Pomorskie Training Area (DPTA) back in Poland. Every driver also participated in mountain driving lessons. We are also well equipped with appropriate, warm gear such as winter proof jackets, thermal underwear, winter boots, gloves and so on.
7. What do you do in your down time to relax?
I'm interested in automobiles and mechanics. In my spare time, if I'm not playing with my children I like to modify and repair my cars.
8. What is the best thing about being in the military?
We have an opportunity to be involved in exercises such as Brilliant Jump. It's a great opportunity for me to gain new experiences in extreme weather conditions and challenging terrain. I enjoy the chance to meet servicemen from other NATO member countries as well as partner nations, and simply become a better professional soldier.
