Major General Luís Filipe Camelo Duarte Santos

Major General Luís Camelo was born in Luanda, Angola, in 1964, and joined the Portuguese Military Academy in 1982 where he completed a master's degree in Signals Engineer.

Prior to joining Army CIS Branch, Major General Luís Camelo held various positions namely Director of Army Communications and Information Directorate (2021), NATO Communications and Information Academy Director (2020), at the Military Academy as Deputy Commander and Dean of Academics (2019), Army Personnel Branch Chief of Staff (2018-2019) and from 2016 to 2017 he attended the Flag Officers Course at the War College.

He served as the Commander Cyber Defence Centre (2014-2016), Commander Army Signal Regiment (2013-2014) and Commander Army Signal School (2012-2013).

From 2010 to 2012, Major General Camelo was Head of CIS and Electronic Warfare Branch in General Defense Staff, Portugal. Prior to assuming Command, Brigadier General Camelo served as G2 Intel Fusion Chief at EUFOR HQ/BiH, Sarajevo (2006-2007) and G2/Intel Production Chief at EUROFOR HQ / ITALY (2006-2009).

Major General Camelo served at Land Forces Command at Oeiras, Portugal (2002-2006), as head of the Electronic Warfare Centre and as G6/Head of CIS branch. In the Army Staff, he was head of CIS and EW Department (2001-2002) and Staff Officer in Operations Branch (2001-2002).

In 1998, he served as Signal Company Commander at the Mechanized Brigade in Santa Margarida.

During that time Brigadier General Camelo attended the Command and General Staff Course.

From 1993 to 1994, Brigadier General Camelo was deployed in Mozambique as part of a United Nations Operation and served as 3rd Signal Coy Commander and UNHQ G6 Head. From 1987 to 1990, Major-General Camelo served at the Signal Army School in Porto, where he was nominated Signal Coy Commander (1990).

He also attended several courses, among which stand out the Cyberspace Intelligence, Cyber Strategies, Leadership for Information Age and Terrorism and Crime in Cyberspace all at US National Defense University. He also attended Cyber Security framework at European Security and Defense College, Cyber Security framework at US European Command and Cyberspace Crisis Management at PRT National Defense Institute.

At NATO Operations School he attended several courses as NATO Information Operations, Command and Control Warfare, Joint Service Introductory Warfare and Advanced Electronic Warfare. At NATO CIS School he attended Frequency Management course. In PRT Armed Forces he attended the following courses: Electronic Warfare, Military Observer and Liaison Officer, Nuclear Biological Chemical War, Battlefield Surveillance, Non Regular Operations (Special Forces) and Civilian Parachuting at Airborne Brigade.

During his assignments Brigadier General Camelo served as National Representative in NATO Coalition Warrior Interoperability, NATO Emitter Data Base Advisory Group, Chairman of CIS Expert Group/EUROFOR, NATO Communications Land Working Group, NATO Land Electronic Warfare Working Group, NATO Electronic Warfare Advisory Group and teacher in Army Technical School.

Major General Luís Camelo is married with Mrs. Rosa Guedes and they have a son.
