Lieutenant-colonel Kim Kirsch was born in Luxembourg-City on 5th of June 1981.
He joined the Luxembourg Army in 2001. After graduating from the "École Spéciale Militaire de St-Cyr” in 2005, he completed his basic infantry officer training at the “École d’Application de l’Infanterie” in Montpellier, France, in 2006. Subsequent military education included the Belgian ISTAR company commander course in 2012 the “Diplôme d’état-major” from the French Army Staff Officer course in Saumur, France, in 2015 as well as the “Brevet d’études militaires supérieures” from the “École de Guerre” in Paris.
From 2006 to 2012, he served as anti-tank and reconnaissance platoon commander. Serving as reconnaissance company commander, he participated with his company as part of the ISTAR Battalion in the training and stand-by phase of the European Battle Group 2014.
After a short assignment as the principal staff officer to the Luxembourg national Force Commander, LtCol Kirsch joined NATO for a first time from 2016 to 2020 as National Military Representative to SHAPE and Deputy Military Representative to the NATO Military Committee.
On his return to Luxembourg, he took over the position as the Deputy Force Commander from September 2020 to August 2023.
From September 2023 to July 2024, LtCol Kirsch attended the “École de Guerre” in Paris.
He has been appointed to become the National Military Representative to SHAPE and Deputy Military Representative to the NATO Military Committee as of 1 September 2024.
LtCol Kirsch participated as an ISR Platoon Commander in operations KFOR in 2008 and 2009 and as a Staff Officer and national contingent commander in operation ISAF in 2013 within the Kandahar Airfield Command.
He lives with his spouse Mireille close to Luxembourg-City and enjoys reading and golfing in his spare time.
He is fluent in English, French and German.
