Brigadier general Ainārs Ozoliņš was born on 2 January 1969 in Madona, Latvia.
His military career in Latvian Army started in 1992 after he graduated Military Academy and was posted as Company 2IC with follow up appointment as Company Commander of newly formed infantry battalion.
In 1994 he was promoted to the rank of Captain and one year later he assumed command of the Infantry battalion in city of Alūksne. After successful completion of a career course at the National Defence Academy in 1997 he was promoted to Major. In summer 2001 he became the CO of Infantry Training Centre in Adaži, and later on in November was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Brigadier general Ainārs Ozoliņš earned his BA degree in auto engineering from Riga Technical University in 2003 and in 2004 started his studies on the Joint Command and Staff Course at the Baltic Defence College.
Since January 2006 he was posted as Chief of the Logistic Department at the General HQ with following posting later the same year as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Support. In December 2006 he was promoted to the rank of Colonel.
In 2008 he returned to the Baltic Defence College continuing his military education at the Higher Command Study Course and in August of 2009 he was posted outside Latvia assuming the position of Latvian NMR at SHAPE.
After his posting to SHAPE in 2012 Ainārs Ozoliņš took position in MOD as Executive Secretary in the field of military capability development, and subsequently in January 2013 he was appointed to the Joint Headquarters as Deputy Chief of Staff for operations. In November 2013 he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General.
In August 2016 he became the Commander of National Guard. From 01 June 2019 took DCOM position in Multinational Division North.
In summer 2024 he was posted as Latvian National Military Representative at SHAPE once again.
For his outstanding military achievements Brigadier general Ainārs Ozoliņš was awarded by Order of Viesturs (Vestahardus Rex), has numerous awards from the Latvian Minister of Defence and Chief of Defence.
He is married to Tatjana and they have two sons and grandson. Brigadier general enjoys hunting and travelling.
