Major General Ludovic Pinon was born on 30th September 1971 in Neuilly-sur-Seine. He is married and has six children. He joined the SaintCyr Military Academy in 1992 (class Capitaine Stephane), and chose Armour upon graduation.
After one year of training at the School of Armour in Saumur (1995-1996), he served as a Lieutenant at the 1st Regiment de Spahis (armoured recce) in Valence. He deployed to Sarajevo for Operation Salamander as troop leader.
Promoted to Captain in 1999, he was posted to the 6th -12th Regiment de cuirassiers (armour). He attended the future company commander course in Fort Knox (United States) in 2001, before assuming command of the 3rd armoured squadron of the 6th Cuirassiers.
In 2003, he was posted to the Army Staff as staff officer for category-based policies (specialising first in NCOs then in privates) at the Human Resources Planning Office. He was promoted to Major in 2004.
After passing the War College competitive examination in 2006, he attends the 120th class of the General Staff Course, then the 15th class of the Joint Staff College.
Promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel in 2008, he was assigned to the Civilian Crisis Planning and Coordination Cell of the European Union in Brussels, as liaison officer between Mission EU LEX Kosovo and the member States.
In 2009, he was assigned to the 1st Regiment de Spahis as S3 and deployed with it to Cote d'Ivoire for Operation Licorne.
In May 2011, he was assigned again to the Army Staff as speech-writer for the Chief of the French Army. He was promoted to Colonel in 2011.
Between July 2013 and July 2015, he was the Commanding Officer of the 1st Regiment de Spa his as well as of the Valence Defence Base, and the military representative of the Drome departement. During his command tour, he deployed to Cote d'Ivoire where he assumed command of the French forces in Cote d'Ivoire from February to June 2015.
In the summer of 2015, he went back to the Army Staff as deputy head of studies and strategy. In 2016, he became deputy head of the Chief of Army's private office.
He was privileged to be selected in 2017 for the 67th session of the Higher Command and Staff Course and the 70th session of the College of Higher Defence Studies
From 2018 to 2021, he served in the Armed Forces Joint Staff in the capability and development branch in charge of Intel future assets then as secretary general of this branch.
Appointed Brigadier General on September 1, 2021, he assumed command of the Specialized Training Centres of HQ Training Command and Combined Arms Combat Schools (COME2CIA).
In July 2022, he is designated to take command of the 2nd armoured brigade located in Strasbourg, while also being appointed as military governor of Strasbourg and as commander of the support base Strasbourg-Haguenau-Colmar.
The 1st of August 2024, he rallies Mons as the National Military Representative of France to SHAPE.
