Belgium National Military Representative

Colonel Christophe Blondiau

Colonel Christophe Blondiau was born in 1973 in Soignies (Belgium). After his studies Mathematics-Sciences at the Royal Atheneum Jules Bordet, he joined the Royal Military Academy where he graduated as M.Sc. with distinction.

He joined the Land Forces as Logistics Officer where he took the lead of several maintenance and supply units from '95 until June '99. Multiple deployments and exercises developed his sense for the logistics supply of the troops.

In 1999, he moved to the Logistics School as Instructor specialized in Supply Chain Management and Mobility.

In August 2000, he was promoted as Assistant Professor at the Royal Military Academy, where he was teaching several courses in the field of Economy, Management and Applied Mathematics (inventory management, reliability models, total quality management, operational research, applied statistics to production process, public economy, …). At the same period, he was involved as Instructor or Logistics Convoy Commander during the military training of candidate-officers. In the meanwhile, he was also ISO-auditor of different research laboratories and he has been graduated as safety engineer (University of Louvain) and quality engineer (Antwerp) with high distinction.

After his Junior Staff Course, he became Material Manager of Combat Equipment, where he was responsible for determining the management policy, ranging from the definition of the technical specifications to the distribution, supply and resupply policy.

Later, he followed the Higher Course of Military Administrator and obtained a master after master in public management (Brussels) with high distinction.

Major Blondiau then became Budget and Financial Controller and was appointed to the Inspector-general of Finances.

Then, he joined the Public Procurement Division as Section Chief of the Section in charge of the purchase of individual and collective equipment, armament and optical equipment, military equipment for specific functions such as pilots, divers, deminers, Special Forces, Para Troopers equipment, ... During this period, he became Lieutenant-colonel and gained a lot of experience in the area of public contracts.

From 2018 to 2022, LtCol Blondiau became the Expert Officer at Strategic Level at the Cabinet of the Ministry of Defence, where he was in charge of several major investment programs (infrastructure F35 capacity, MCM-vessels, Motorized Capacity, Combat Light Vehicles, …).

During the COVID crisis, he was appointed by the Minister as Chairman of the Logistics Task Force and worked out plans to organize and support the logistics activities of more than 400 millions medical items, protection equipment and medical devices intented to hospitals and healthcare staff. In this context, a logistics Hub was set up in military barracks to support all the supply and distribution activities.

He has also been the Commanding Officer of this unit and was appointed in the rank of colonel during this period.

Afterwards, he was appointed as Director of Budget and Finances at the Cabinet of the Ministry of Belgian Defence, in direct support of the Minister. He was responsible for the budget of Belgian Defence and the implementation of investment programs such as Light Utility Helicopters, Coastal Patrol Vessels, SOF aircraft, protected vehicles, artillery combat vehicles, naval strike missiles, …

He was in charge of the negotiations of these programs at political level (Council of ministers, Ministers of Budget and Finances, Parliamentary Committee on Military Procurement and equipment acquisition, …) and responsible for the development of various strategic partnerships strengthening the strategic autonomy, resilience and security of supply of the Belgian Defence in different areas (armaments, munitions, maintenance of major equipment, ...). He was also responsible for drafting various files to support Ukraine, ranging from the delivery of military equipment to the implementation of purchase contracts with different defence relates companies or participation in several international coalitions.

Finally, in May 2025, he became Belgian National Military Representative at SHAPE.

Colonel Christophe Blondiau is married to Joanna for more than 20 years and is the proud father of Frédéric. They live in Neufvilles, in the suburbs of the SHAPE headquarter.
