Brigadier General (BGen) Petrit ÇUNI was born in Shkodra, on September 6, 1969. He began his military career in 1984, with the enrolment in the Military High School "Scanderbeg". After its completion in 1988, he attended the Military Academy in Tirana, Albania from which he graduated in 1992 and was entitled as junior officer.
He has an extended military career starting for the tactical to the strategic level, both staff and command-leadership positions. Upon his graduation, he served in the Tanks Battalion in different positions starting from platoon, company and by the end of 1993 he was assigned as the Commander of the Tanks Battalion.
From 1997, after he attended a Battalion Commander Course in Munster, Germany, he served for six years in different positions, including Commander of the Tanks Battalion; Deputy Battalion Commander of the 1st Infantry Battalion of the Rapid Reaction Brigade (RRB). During this period, he was deployed twice in the SFOR Mission in Bosnia & Hercegovina as the Commander of the Albanian Peacekeeping Contingent.
BGen ÇUNI has attended a military course in the Albanian Military Academy in 2000, followed by advanced military studies in Germany. In additional, he attended for two years the Bundeswehr Leadership Academy in Hamburg, where he graduated in June 2009. Afterwards, he attended several methodology and leadership courses, including the European Security Course; Advanced Security Studies Course at George C. Marshall Centre; Legal Aspects of Cybernetic Crime and International Humanitarian Law as well as NATO Staff Orientation Course.
In September 2009, he was assigned as the Deputy Commander of the "Scanderbeg" Military University and from November 2011 its Commander. Afterwards, he was assigned as the Course Commander of the Senior Military Course of the Albanian Military Academy.
In July 2013, BGen Cuni was assigned as the Head of Base Support Management Branch as well as Senior National Representative of the Republic of Albania in the Joint Force Command in Brunssum, Kingdom of the Netherlands, where he served until July 2016.
In July 2016, he was assigned as Director of NATO, EU and Foreign Relations Directorate in the Albanian MoD and as of September 2016, he was promoted to "Colonel". He served in this position until February 2017 when he was assigned as the Chief of Staff of the Land Forces Command until 15 May 2018.
From May 2018 until July 2019, he held the position of the Director of General Staff of Albanian Armed Forces. Since 15th July 2019, he has been serving as the Albania's National Military Representative in ACO, SHAPE in Belgium. In November 2021 by the decree of the President of the Republic of Albanian, he is promoted to "Brigadier General" (BGen).
During his military career, BGen ÇUNI was awarded with several medals and awards, which were granted by national and international politico and military authorities.
He speaks English and German fluently.
BGen ÇUNI is married to Eglantina and they have a daughter Antonela, and two sons Paulo and Etrit.
