Lieutenant General Curtis A. Buzzard is originally from Philadelphia, PA and graduated from the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point, NY in 1992. He commissioned as an Infantry Officer and began his career in the 82nd Airborne Division.
Over his 32 years of service, LTG Buzzard served in numerous command and staff assignments across various combat maneuver formations. He has deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan and worked closely with numerous Allies and partners.
Some notable assignments include Company Command in the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment and 3rd US Infantry, Military Aide for Presidents Bush and Obama, Battalion and Brigade Command in the 82nd Airborne Division in combat, Commander of the Joint Multinational Readiness Center, and Deputy Commander for the 7th Infantry Division. As a General Officer, he served as the 78th Commandant of Cadets at the United States Military Academy, Director of the Defense Security Cooperation Management Office – Afghanistan, and the US Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) G3/5/7. Most recently, LTG Buzzard served as the Commander, U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence and Fort Moore, Georgia.
LTG Buzzard earned Master’s Degrees from Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Marine Corps University. He also served as an Army War College Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and is a current member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
LTG Buzzard is married to the former Teri Marie Anderson, a registered nurse and former Army officer. They are the proud parents of three daughters in a military family – Katie is a Physical Therapist and Army spouse, Caroline is a Naval Flight Officer, and Anna is a Naval Surface Warfare Officer.
