NATO Force Integration Unit Romania plays vital role in Steadfast Cobalt
Bucharest, Romania - With over 1000 personnel taking part
in Exercise Steadfast Cobalt 16 (SC16) from May 22 to June 3, the Communications
staff of the NATO Force Integration Unit in Bucharest, Romania have been
closely involved with the exercise and observing the preparation and operations
of deployable communication assets.
NFIUs play a critical role in the deployment of rapidly mobile
forces where Reception, Staging and Onward Movement are key functions. However
the ability to communicate at many levels is vital.
NFIU Romanian Commander Colonel Catalin Ticulescu said,"
Although my staff are part of the training audience for SC16, participation has
been invaluable for our role in Ex NOBLE JUMP17 and supporting eNRF deployment
next year.”
With the NFIU ROU fully operational by the Warsaw Summit in
July, Exercise Steadfast Cobalt 16 has provided the platform for evaluating
deployable communications and command and control systems.
"With
the vast experience from participating nations on this exercise, my team have
been able to refine communication procedures which will closely support the
NFUI executing its core functions in any defensive deployment,” added Colonel Ticulescu .
