KFOR hosts the first Commander of Kosovo Force

PRISTINA, Kosovo - KFOR Headquarters hosted the first Commander of Kosovo Force, General Sir Mike David Jackson, during a visit to Pristina on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016.

Jackson was welcomed by KFOR Commander Major General Giovanni Fungo, who was honoured by the General's visit, the first Commander appointed to KFOR in 1999.

General Sir Mike David Jackson expressed his desire that KFOR would successfully continue in progressing its mandate and that the future would see peace and stability maintained and secured throughout Kosovo.

During the visit, Jackson also laid wreaths at the monuments dedicated to the KFOR service members and to the 14 UK servicemen who paid the ultimate sacrifice in their service while on operations in Kosovo. This event was also attended by British Ambassador to Kosovo, Ruairí O'Connell, and representatives of various military contingents serving at the headquarters.

It is interesting to note that Jackson's tenure as COMKFOR was captured in an iconic painting by Nick Bashall, commissioned to commemorate key negotiations that took place in the ''Batcave'' at KFOR HQ, so named because the original room had high ceilings and was dark and cavernous.
