SACEUR Change of Command Ceremony

CHANGE OF COMMAND CEREMONY, MAY 4th, 2016
A change of command ceremony for NATO’s Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) will take place on Wednesday, May 4th, at Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), in Casteau, Belgium.
U.S. Army General Curtis M. Scaparrotti will assume command of Allied Command Operations from the outgoing SACEUR, General Philip M. Breedlove. General Scaparrotti will be the eighteenth American officer to hold this prestigious post.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg will preside over the ceremony and representatives from across the Alliance will be in attendance.
BACKGROUND INFORMATION FOR MEDIA (for administrative purposes)
Following the ceremony, NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg and General Scaparrotti will meet the media for a 15 minute availability.
Media are invited to attend, but must register in advance.
The deadline for registration is 09:00hrs (local time) on Tuesday, May 3rd, 2016. Registration is now closed!
Media should arrive at the Berlin (main) Gate at SHAPE (Rue Grande, Mons) no later than 11:45 a.m. on 4 May. The ceremony will start at 14:00 p.m. and will conclude at 14:45 p.m.
Parking will be made available in the visitors parking lot. Media will be met by SHAPE staff.
Enhanced security will be in place for this event. Journalists should expect delays entering the base. Please also note that bags and equipment brought onto SHAPE may be searched. Media are asked to be patient and understanding regarding these security measures.
Apart from the informal media availability that will occur after the ceremony, it will not be possible to arrange separate interviews with the Secretary General and SACEUR on May 4th. Media not attending the ceremony will not have the option to attend the media availability session.
