Deputy Chief of Staff of Military Partnerships Directorate

Major General Odd Egil Pedersen assumed command of MPD August 8th 2016. He came to his present post from the Norwegian Armed Forces Cyber Defence. 

Major General Odd Egil Pedersen was born September 19, 1959 in Ringebu, Norway. He is married to Kari, a health care nurse working in Asker community. They have two sons, Christian, also an officer in the Norwegian Army and Hans Olav, a mechanical engineering student.

The General began his career in the Norwegian Armed Forces in 1978 as an NCO at the Infantry NCO School and served in the 1 Bn/Brigade North and in the Home Guard District 05 as a weapons instructor before being accepted into the Army Military Academy. He received his commission after graduating in 1984. As a junior officer he served as a platoon commander in the Norwegian Army Signal Regiment, Lillehammer, for 2 years before moving to Brigade North/6th Division. He worked 6 years in various positions as platoon commander, staff officer, Electronic Warfare (EW) officer and exercise planner. He was appointed Commander of the Norwegian EW Company in 1990, and moved from there to the Army Staff in Oslo in 1992 as a staff officer C4IS, responsible for investments in signals equipment and ICT in the Norwegian Army. He served as a liaison officer in the Multinational Force and Observers in Sinai in 1994-1995. After 2 years at the US Marine Corps University in Quantico, Virginia he was promoted to LtCol and appointed Military Assistant to the Chief of the Norwegian Defence.

In 1999 – 2001 he commanded the Intelligence Battalion/6th Division. During this period he worked extensively with integration challenges (sensor to shooter) together with the Artillery and Ranger batallions in the 6th division, today called ISTAR.

MG Pedersen served a short period as a senior staff officer at the CHOD’s situation centre, before being promoted to Colonel in 2001 and appointed Director Military Support in the Norwegian Intelligence Service (NIS). He led the reorganization of Norways concept of deploying intelligence capabilities abroad in support of military operations. In 2004 he was appointed Director Intelligence Assessments (NIS) and led the all source intelligence production in support of various sectors of the Norwegian Government. He deployed as the Contingent Commander Norwegian Forces in Afghanistan in 2007, and was appointed Director of Land Power and Operations in the Norwegian Army TRADOK late in 2007. The General was promoted to Brigadier in 2008 and worked at SHAPE/J2 in the period 2008 – 2013. He covered positions as Head of Intelligence Liaison, Director Intelligence Support and ACOS J2. He led the transformation of the J2 division in developing intelligence support to the new Comprehensive Crises Operations Management Centre/SHAPE. MG Pedersen returned to the Norwegian Intelligence Service in August 2013 and promoted to MajorGeneral in December 2013 and was appointed commander of the Norwegian Armed Forces Cyber Defence. He has since been a member of the Norwegian CHODs Command Group.

MG Pedersen graduated from the Norwegian Army Staff College in 1991 (short course) and 1994 (long course). He is a distinguished graduate from the US Marine Corps Command and General Staff College 95/96 class and the US Marine Corps School of Advanced Warfighting program in 96-97. MG Pedersen is also a distinguished graduate from NATO Defence College (2004), and joined the Generals, Flag Officers and Ambassadors’ Course at the NATO Defence College in 2015.
