Portugal – Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR), General
Curtis M. Scaparrotti, paid a visit to Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO
(STRIKFORNATO) headquarters on Monday, Oct.16, 2017 to take part in a
series of discussions.
SACEUR and his delegation were hosted by STRIKFORNATO
Deputy Commander, Rear Admiral Paddy McAlpine and were briefed on the
headquarters’ role in NATO Maritime Ballistic Missile Defence as well as U.S.- led Exercise
FORMIDABLE SHIELD 17, currently underway off the coast of Scotland.
"It is my honour to visit STRIKFORNATO and
discuss your important missions and significant contribution to security and
stability in the Euro-Atlantic,” said General Scaparrotti.
This was SACEUR’s first visit to STRIKFORNATO since taking
command of Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe in May 2016.
STRIKFORNATO is NATO’s premier Maritime Battle-staff and the Alliance’s
primary link for integrating U.S. Maritime Forces into NATO operations. It is a
rapidly deployable, Maritime Headquarters that provides scalable command and
control across the full spectrum of Alliance fundamental security tasks.
